Lionel Messi nets his 15th goal in just 16 league appearances, earning Inter Miami a crucial draw.

**FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.** – Lionel Messi continues to propel Inter Miami toward the No. 1 seed in the MLS Cup playoffs, while also keeping the single-season points record within reach.

Messi's 67th-minute strike secured a 1-1 draw against Charlotte FC, extending Miami's unbeaten run to eight league matches. This marked his 15th goal in 16 appearances this season. The draw, coupled with Columbus’ 2-2 tie with D.C. United, maintains Inter Miami’s eight-point cushion at the top of the Eastern Conference standings, and seven points ahead of LA Galaxy for the top overall seed.

A victory against Columbus on Wednesday could clinch the No. 1 seed for Miami, which holds 65 points with three matches left, while Columbus has 57 points with four games remaining. Winning out would give Miami 74 points, surpassing New England's record of 73 set in 2021.

Messi’s goal came after Charlotte took the lead through Karol Swiderski. Messi responded with a stunning left-footed shot, weaving through defenders to equalize. Despite late opportunities, including a missed chance by Luis Suarez, Inter Miami settled for its third consecutive draw.

Inter Miami (19-4-8) will finish its regular season with matches against Columbus, Toronto, and New England, and is set to open the playoffs at home the following weekend.
